Limited Stop Services
As part of the Corporation’s war-time economy measures, the limited stop was introduced on motorbus services, where they duplicated tram or trolleybus services. Under the arrangement, on evening peaks, between the hours of 4.30pm and 6pm, passengers would not be picked up to be set down before a specific point on the outward route, although passengers would be picked up prior to the point in order to be set down after it.
By special dispensation, the words ‘LIMITED STOP’ were displayed in orange characters on the black background, in the ‘VIA’ blind. After the end of the war the arrangement was continued and did so up to the end of regulated services in 1986.
